Hematology Tests

Hematology Tests

All CBC’s are processed via an automated analyzer and a manual blood smear review, a manual differential is then performed when certain criteria is observed.

Abnormalities we scan for are: E.canis inclusions, hemobartonella canis, hemobartonella felis, toxic neutrophils, atypical lymphocytes, microfilaria, mast cells, abnormal RBC morphology: basophilic stippling, acanthocytes, spherocytes, etc.

Pathologist review of abnormal CBC/blood smears at no additional charge when required.

Test Description: Prothrombin Time (PT)
Test Code: 381
Specimens: 1mL citrated plasma (BTT). All blue top tubes must be filled to capacity for accurate analysis.
Minimum: 0.5mL citrated plasma (BTT)
Storage: Centrifuge sample. Aliquot the plasma into a separate tube and keep refrigerated if specimen will arrive in the laboratory within 24 hours. Otherwise, freeze plasma within 1 hour of collection and submit frozen plasma to the laboratory.
Information: The blood to anticoagulant ratio is critical for accurate test results. If an inadequate blood sample is taken, results will be falsely prolonged. Clearly label tube as citrated plasma.
